Description
The Belknap class was designed shortly after the Enterprise Class was introduced. She was an attempt to enhance upon the Enterprise by giving better weapons arcs, more phasers and a higher torpedo capacity. The result was not promising. The added mass and weight caused her to be slow and sluggish. After trials starfleet decided that the increase in cost vs. firepower and agility was too great. The project was ended after completion of the second ship. Both served as part of the normal fleet.

This vessel flew under the name, Ascension.
